FUEL quality not only has a very great influence on engine operation and maintenance, but it is also one of the most important factors controlling engine development. Gasolines used as internalcombustion engine fuels possess many physical characteristics, each of which has some practical influence upon the operation and running of engines. The selection of the most suitable fuels for aircraft engines demands a knowledge of these fuel characteristics, which are discussed below.
