A number of new aircraft and evidence of considerable developments in many areas of the aerospace industry, were characteristics of the Show. Highlighting the Soviet presence was the enormous An225 designed for the transport of large loads to remote areas, which has been proposed as a launch platform for the British Aerospace Hotol. The An225 has already carried the Buran shuttle and components of a heavy launch vehicle and loads of 250 tonnes can be accommodated.
