Cybernetics and systems on the web Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe grids, an important development of internet‐like communication, with references to internet sources of additional information. The aim is to review developments on the internet, especially those of general cybernetic interest. Design/methodology/approach – The tenth anniversary of the World Wide Web Consortium is noted, as well as music festivals in the Lent district of Maribor, which was the venue for the recent WOSC Congress. Findings – The internet provides valuable information on each of the three topics. Practical implications – Grids are an important current development, especially but not exclusively in connection with particle physics research.
