Management theory taught to nonWestern students is oftenculturebound and ignores crosscultural differences. The inference isthat what is relevant in the West is relevant everywhere. Thisassumption impacts adversely on the effectiveness of any training. Thearticle argues for a greater awareness of these issues amonglecturerstrainers and students. In particular, it is suggested thatlecturerstrainers should design and develop their learning strategiesto encourage the open discussion of these differences. The overallobjective should be to establish a classroom climate where one set ofvalues is not automatically given precedence over another.
