Use of chemical inhibitors is a technique of rapidly increasing importance in the neverending fight against corrosion of refinery equipment. The method itself is not new. But with growing complexity of the corrosion problem, development of inhibiting techniques has made rapid strides, especially during the postwar years. Today, the plant operator has at his disposal a large number of chemical corrosion preventives which may result in substantial reduction in maintenance costs, provided they are properly applied.
