Investigates ways in which computer technology can enable peoplewith a hearing andor speech impairment to communicate. These range fromtelecommunication devices for the deaf TDDs to software designed toteach deaf children how to read and write in English often their secondlanguage. Other new technology includes software that converts Englishinto American Sign Language vocabulary, and under development is asystem which will facilitate communication between a hearing person anda person with a combination of hearingvisual or hearingspeechimpairment.
