Journals and industry publications are important in communicationamong production and operationsmanagement academics and practitioners.There have been calls for more crossdisciplinary research and greateremphasis on applied benefit. Describes an attempt to identify relevantperiodicals, together with their publication characteristics andreadership exposure indices. The authors conclude that even if researchagendas are changed to emphasize practitionerrelevant research, that isof little benefit if the readership of academic journals remains low. Itis suggested that other outlets, particularly those with high readershipexposure, should be regarded as legitimate publication outlets for suchresearch.
