PROGRESS and developments in the design of poppet valves, for aeroengines in particular, has been very fast during recent years research is constantly being made, both in design and production. Alloys, heat treatments and constructional features have all been developed with a view to greater efficiency in the engine and machining methods are continually scrutinized in an endeavour to improve performance and to lower production costs.
