The various factors affecting the proper functioning of both piston and gasturbine engine oil systems, intended for use in cold climates, are not always appreciated during the design stage because of the lack of readily available information. In this article, therefore, the design and functioning of oil systems suitable for use in arctic weather are discussed in the light of experience gained in service and in testing several installations.
