Abstract
Discusses stocktaking in libraries using the shelflist method withparticular reference to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Library,Bauchi, Nigeria, 1987 stocktaking exercise. Views stocktaking as animportant aspect of library stock management. Considers types ofstocktaking, advantages and disadvantages of stocktaking. Describes thelibrary shelflist, assumptions, planning and sequence involved instocktaking using the shelflist method. Suggests that the frequency ofstocktaking should depend on the size of the stock and the human andmaterial resources available for the exercise.
