•Thermophysical properties of liquid Co were measured by a levitation method.•The density of liquid Co was measured within an uncertainty of 1.2%.•The emissivity at 807 nm of liquid Co deviated from the Drude model.•The heat capacity of liquid Co was essentially constant with temperature.•The thermal conductivity agreed with the Wiedemann–Franz law at low temperatures.
