•Comprehensive collection of NIR spectra of asteroids in the Polana/Eulalia families. •The 63 spectra are red with an average slope of S′ = 0.68 ± 0.68 %/1000 Å. •NIR spectroscopy cannot be used to separate members of these families or the background. •Spectroscopy of (495) Eulalia covering a whole rotation suggests surface homogeneity. •(495) Eulalia is red (S′= 0.91 ± 0.60 %/1000 Å) similar to the deMeo C-complex.
