•We propose adaptive fraction control of the pitch of hydrophobic dots for pool boiling.•The concentration of hydrophobic dot area varies with distance from the center.•Temperature fields of fluid and solid substrate are solved concurrently to consider conjugate heat transfer.•By this optimization method, the overall CHF and superheat should be enhanced for patterned wettability.•The deviation of heat transfer rate of overall surface is reduced by adaptive fraction control.
