•Experimental and numerical researches have implemented to study supercritical RP-3.•A modified k–ε model for RP-3 is proposed by decreasing Cε1 and increasing Cε2.•Cε1 and Cε2 is associated with q/G, Tin and Re.•The new model can solve the problem of under-predicting the flow and heat transfer.•The modified model can reduce the discrepancies with the experimental results.
