•Soluble arabinoxylan (AX) of 71% purity and A/X 0.45 was obtained from wheat bran.•Amylase and protease pretreatment ensures higher purity and low A/X ratio for AX.•Aqueous liquefaction of bran at 121°C for 15h facilitates solubilisation of AX.•GH10 endoxylanases are more effective in the production of A(XOS) from soluble AX.•GsXyn10A (GH10) produced maximum quantifiable short XOS and AXOS (A3X, A2XX).
