•We dynamically observed HIV-seropositive patients in the 1st year of HAART for oral candidiasis-specific immunity information.•During the observation, in saliva, IL-17 and IFN-γ were in uptrend, whereas IL-4 and HBD-2 were in downtrend.•In HIV-infected patients, the occurrence of OC was negatively correlated to IL-17 and IFN-γ, and positively correlated to IL-4.•Salivary HBD-2 plays a role against OC.•It is speculated the occurrence of OC is related to the change of cytokines, especially in local level.
