Greenock Burns Club is the oldest extant Burns Club in the world. While it has disavowed claims to have been the first Burns Club, and holding the first Burns Supper (in favour of the now-defunct Allowa’ Club), it maintains its foundation date is 1801. Contemporary records prove that while the Greenock Ayrshire Society held Burns Suppers for three years from 1802, the Greenock Burns Club only broke away from its parent society in 1804. This still means it is older than Paisley Burns Club, albeit that both societies held their first Burns Suppers on the same day, 29 January 1805.
