Scottish Historical Review Monograph Series

Scottish Historical Review Monograph Series The Scottish Historical Review, Volume LXXXV, 2: No. 220: October 2006, 181 ANNOUNCEMENT The Scottish Historical Review Monograph series is designed to promote major works of scholarly research covering all aspects of Scottish History. The series, which now contains fourteen volumes, seeks to support the work of scholars active in the discipline but particularly those who have recently obtained a Ph.D. The aim is to produce an average of two monographs per anum, with titles chosen by the Trustees of the Scottish Historical Review in partnership with the new publishers of the series, Edinburgh University Press (EUP). EUP has recently published no. 14 in the series, Allan W. MacColl, Land Faith and the Crofting Community: Christianity and Social Criticism in the Highlands of Scotland, 1843 to 1893; no. 15, Andrew Newby, Ireland, Radicalism and the Scottish Highlands, 1870-1912, will be published in 2007. Proposals will be considered by the Monograph Editorial Board and should include: a letter of support from the supervisor of the Ph.D., or, alternatively, from a recognised authority in the area; a book proposal (1000 words); an outline detailing the contents of each chapter; and a sample chapter that will then be subject to review by independent referees. The authors of proposals still under consideration at this stage will be expected to give a detailed written response to the comments of both the Editorial Board and the referees. Successful proposals will receive the SHR Monograph imprint and a subvention of £2000 from the SHR Trustees, payable to EUP, to facilitate publication in hardback and at an accessible retail price. All applications, including the supporting letter, book proposal, chapter outline and draft chapter should be sent to: Dr Andrew Mackillop History University of Aberdeen King’s College Old Aberdeen AB24 3FX a.mackillop@abdn.ac.uk On-line publication of the Scottish Historical Review Beginning with volume 85 (2006) the SHR will be available on-line through Project Muse.
