Le Manuscrit inédit de la grande danseuse romantique, édition établie, présentée et annotée par Bruno Ligore, Gremese/Editions de Grenelle, 191+XXXII, 38 colour illustrations, 2017, avec un essai d’Audrey Gay-Mazuel conservatrice du patrimoine au Musée des Art Décoratifs de Paris. ISBN 978-2- 36677-116-9, price 35 euros. Over the years, a large number of scholars of the Romantic ballet have referred to the manuscript memoirs of Marie Taglioni in the Paris Opéra Library. To date the document itself has not been questioned, in spite of its incongruous elements. The paper it is written on does not belong to the nineteenth-century; a text covers only half of each page; it contains writing by six different hands; and on its cover are handwritten notes referring to Serge Lifar’s ballet, Les Créatures de Prométhée. Therefore there exist questions about the provenance of the text and its reliability. While searching for some information on Marie Taglioni, the Italian- Argentine dance scholar Bruno Ligore (a doctoral student at the Cote d’Azur University, France), was confounded by this document when it came into his hands.
