Marcella Althaus-Reid 1952â2009 Marcella Althaus-Reid was one of the three Associate Editors of this journal. She was a great resource in suggesting the names of potential authors for our special issues. Her advice reï¬ected not only her extensive knowledge of Latin America, but her worldwide connections in feminist studies. The issue SWC 5.2 (1999) âPostcolonialism and Religionâ, which she co-edited with her colleague Jack Thompson, proved to be the most enquired-after issue in the history of the journal. Marcella MarÃa de los Angeles was born in Rosario, Argentina, the city â as she reminded us â of Che Guevara. In her youth she lived through times of political repression under the military junta. Sponsored by the Methodist Church, she trained for the ministry at ISADET, the Protestant theological seminary in Buenos Aires. These were important times for Liberation Theology and her professors included Severino Croatto and José Miguez Bonino. In keeping with that theology she was active in ministries to the homeless and destitute in the city. In the 1980s she continued her studies in Norway and attended conferences throughout Europe.
