Judy Van Zile (ed.), The Halla Huhm Dance Collection: An Inventory and Finding Aid

Judy Van Zile (ed.), The Halla Huhm Dance Collection: An Inventory and Finding Aid book reviews structuralism and post (post)modern discourse that no longer includes geniuses? Is it appropriate to provide such a subjective, romantic narrative of Laban’s life, who lived through the Third Reich? His attitude toward National Socialism was indecisive, to put it mildly, and that is still the subject of controversy in Germany, as can be seen in the book Tanz unterm Hakenkreuz (Dancing Under the Swastika) by Marion Kant and Lilian Karina. His comportment does not exactly make him stand out in the Germany of the 1930s. In Germany this kind of one-dimensional glorification of the life of a prominent person in the first half of the century would not be appropriate. One would be criticized for a failure to exercise political responsibility. The fact that an eminent historian like Valerie Preston-Dunlop refrains from discussing the political aspect of Laban’s life is at first difficult to understand. But it also shows how the story of anyone’s life reflects the experience of the person telling the story. There are different truths and different forms of objectivity that must be constantly weighed anew each time history is written anew. note A recent example showing the wide range of the application http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Dance Research Edinburgh University Press

Abstract

book reviews structuralism and post (post)modern discourse that no longer includes geniuses? There are different truths and different forms of objectivity that must be constantly weighed anew each time history is written anew. note A recent example showing the wide range of the application
