This collection of essays is the product of some of the twenty-three separate research projects across Africa supported by the Nagel Institute for the Study of World Christianity, Calvin College, with funding from the John Templeton Foundation. It is heartening to see this level of financial support for projects conceived and executed on the African continent. Each chapter focuses on a different project and is written by between one and three researchers involved in the project. The book is published in Cameroon ensuring greater accessibility of its contents on the continent. Its global distribution allows people across the world to learn about the research of African social scientists and theologians. The model of collaboration and sharing of research findings is exemplary. So too is the interdisciplinary ambition which widens the methods used and the subject areas that are addressed.
