The Uus Maailm (New World) district of Tallinn in Estonia has for a number of years seen a large number of actions initiated by its residents, aimed at reviving this neglected post-socialist neighbourhood, as well as taking part in the capital's city planning. Community work, a residents' library, street festivals, international networking of hyperlocal communities, and other ongoing activities are taking place.1 Following a film shoot on the Estonian island of Vormsi (with Ben Rivers & Ben Russel) involving a number of New World residents, this paper was written as an invitation by them to reflect on sound in their city.
