About the Contributors Timothy C. Baker is Senior Lecturer in Scottish and Contemporary Literature at the University of Aberdeen. He is the author of three monographs, most recently Contemporary Scottish Gothic: Mourning, Authenticity, and Tradition (Palgrave, 2014) and Writing Animals: Language, Suffering, and Animality in Twenty-First-Century Fiction (Palgrave, 2019). His article “‘Not at all afraid’: Queer Temporality and the School Detective Story” emerges from a longstanding teaching and research interest in mid-century women’s fiction. Deborah Cafiero is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Romance Languages and Cultures at the University of Vermont, where she teaches Spanish language courses, introduction to Hispanic literatures, and crime fiction from Mexico and Spain. She is a frequent contributor at conferences for professional organizations including the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the Modern Language Association (MLA) and the Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA). Current research includes Marta Sanz and other woman writers on the fringe of detective fiction, and the teaching of foreign languages to foster social learning, intercultural competence and bilingual identity. Audrey Chan is currently completing an MSc in Literature and Modernity at the University of Edinburgh.
