Each chapter identiï¬es limitations, common misuses, possible solutions for gathering, analyzing, interpreting data in a variety research areas. The edited volume contains 11 chapters results from a workshop held at the Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientiï¬c Culture in Erice, Sicily in December 1996. The preface starts out by reminding us that ecology is rooted in the scientiï¬c method, but as Charles Krebs points out in the ï¬rst chapter, a paradigm that is ten overlooked.
