The spring 2019 issue comprises articles that cross multiple borders (spatial, tem- poral, and textual). Articles on the Chosŏn dynasty present new approaches for thinking about the relation between state power, the vernacular, and the imagina- tion. Focusing in different ways on citizen-subject formations under national divi- sion, two articles in this volume contribute to a growing and increasingly nuanced body of scholarship that considers North Korea–related histories. Contributors to this volume also explore concerns such as language policy, gender, global inter- textuality, translation, race, and religion. We look forward with great anticipation to the fall 2019 thematic issue “Ar- chives, Archival Practice, and the Writing of History in Premodern Korea,” edited by Jungwon Kim. This will be the first special issue in the history of JKS to focus on the premodern period. We are happy to announce that in addition to being a part of Project Muse and JSTOR, JKS is now available to read online at Duke University Press: https://read .dukeupress.edu/journal-of-korean-studies. The editorial office of the Journal of Korean Studies is housed at the Center for Korean Research, Columbia University. JKS is published by Duke Univer- sity Press. Publication of JKS is made possible by a generous grant from the Academy of Korean Studies.
