Abstract—Continuous exposure of albino rats to low intensity light causes progressive deterioration of the photoreceptor cells. Losses in ERG (b‐wave) sensitivity which accompany this ‘light damage’ are directly related to lowered rhodopsin levels in the retina. The same relationship has been observed in light adaptation studies in which the retina is not damaged. Thus, it appears that the production of b‐wave responses is not seriously altered when photoreceptor morphology is disrupted.
