EXPERIENCE W I T H SERNYLAN I N Z O O ANIMALS by W o ~ a n R.Kroll g Russell and Barbara B ~ h n e r A~ very brief . explanation follows: SernylanB, as already mentioned, is still a research product previously labelled Sernyl CL-395 or GP-121.Profound tests were made at Parke, Davis and Company Laboratories and in other parts of the world. It is a brand of Phenylcyclohexyl; the chemical name is L(LPhenylcyclohexy1) piperidhew cl, the structure Veterinarian, San Diego Zoological Garden, US A observation, examination and treatment of zoo animals is being done more and more in the growing population in all the world. It has now become necessary to find a drug with a wide safety margin which can be administered either intramuscularly, intravenously, or orally; and has a range from sedation, tranquillization, analgesia to deep narcosis even. Many possibilities were developed in recent years. Beginning in the summer 1962, many trial cases on various animal species were studied in the San Diego Zoo utilizing Sernylana, a new drug still on an experimental basis.
