Effect of bonding defects on shear strength in tension of lap joints having brittle adhesives

Effect of bonding defects on shear strength in tension of lap joints having brittle adhesives In this paper we examine how the joint strength of lap joints containing a brittle adhesive may be affected by partial removal of adhesive from the bonded area. It is found that the shear strength in tension of a lap joint specimen is governed essentially by the leading edges of the joint and not by the bonded area. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Applied Polymer Science Wiley

Abstract

In this paper we examine how the joint strength of lap joints containing a brittle adhesive may be affected by partial removal of adhesive from the bonded area. It is found that the shear strength in tension of a lap joint specimen is governed essentially by the leading edges of the joint and not by the bonded area.
