Use of the Kuder Preference Record to Predict Turnover in an Industrial Plant

Use of the Kuder Preference Record to Predict Turnover in an Industrial Plant INTRODUCTION Almost invariably the validating criterion used in determining the effectiveness of personnel selection in industry has been some measure of worker efficiency. Often overlooked is the important factor of labor turnover. No attempt will be made to hazard a guess as to the overall relative importance of the two criterion measures. However two recent trends, (1) increased mobility of our labor force, and (2) a greater standardization of output (by contractual agreement or from informal group pressure) suggest that turnover is gaining in overall relative importance. Relatively few studies of a quantitative nature have been reported demonstrating predictor variables related to job tenure. Most of the studies reported in the literature have dealt with the relationship between biographical information and tenure. Abstract

INTRODUCTION Almost invariably the validating criterion used in determining the effectiveness of personnel selection in industry has been some measure of worker efficiency. Significant differences between long and short tenure JOSEPH TIFFIN AND R . F. PHELAN workers have been found to exist in the plants studied for such variables as age, number of previous jobs, and years of schooling. However little has been done in the way of cross validation and setting up selection methods based on the results.
