Malignant vascular tumours * EDWARD WILSON JONES Department of Histopathology, The Institute of Dermatology, Lisle Street^ Leicester Square, London WC2H 7BJ Accepted for publication 19 August 1976 Dermatologists everywhere, and particularly the members of the Dowling Club have been saddened by the recent death of Dr G. B. Dowling. We were delighted that Dr Dowling was able to be in Oxford in April for the oration and dinner, and we shall cherish the memory of seeing him enjoying himself on this, his last public occasion, greeting old friends with all his usual cheerfulness despite the limitations imposed by his failing health and partial deafness. It was characteristic of Dr Dowling that he disliked all 'pomp and circumstance' and I know he would not have wished me to indulge in a long eulogy of his achievements. Let it suffice for me to mention two aspects only. Firstly, he had an international outlook, and he was particularly aware of the dangers of isolation and *cliquishness' in a subject such as dermatology. Indeed, he emphasised the value of travel and the importance of fostering personal relationships with overseas dermatologists and this, in fact, has become one ofthe prime functions of our club.
