Some fifty scholars gathered at each symposium to assess the impact of internationalization on production, technology, and operations management. The papers presented covered both teaching and research issues. POMS, a cosponsor at both symposia and the host of a workshop in the pedagogy of international operations management, offered to devote a special issue of its journal, Production and Operations Management, to this topic. While there were considerable debate and discussion on the exact nature of these effects, all agreed that internationalization was changing the field rapidly. Researchers and educators in other areas, such as finance and marketing, had paid more attention to the influence of internationalization on their fields; it was time for production and operations people to do the same, especially since, in some ways, their field was undergoing even more profound
