M E A S U R E S of INTRODUCTION The typical selection study in industry is an investigation of the relationships between aptitude tests and measures of job performance. We have recently undertaken a series of selection studies at The Prudential Insurance Company in which the interrelationships of additional predictors and criteria are examined. The first of these studies, which is reported here, was based upon the two criteria, job satisfaction and job performance, and the two predictors, aptitudes and interests. The subjects for this investigation were 193 men working with IBM machines in the company. These-IBM operators are given considerable technical training. They are expected to operate several different machines, to plan their own work to some extent, and to recognize when a machine is not operating correctly. Many of them wire the boards which control the machine operations.
