An Overview Perspective Corporate Systems Mkiianagement: and Research management, IS number of recent papers and articles have dealt with the views of information systems (IS) managers about the important issues facing them IS, 91. These studies typically involve survey techniques that do not allow in-depth exploration of the issues identified. A difficulty encountered in survey research is understanding why the executives view the issues as important and exactly how to advance knowledge about management of the issues. The research reported in this article was intended to provide not only a view of some ofthe more important issues, but to place them into a research perspective and explore why the issues are important. To accomplish this, detailed structured interviews with a select group of senior IS executives were conducted. The material in this article deals with the views of this group about the key issues facing them, how the executives deal with the issues and how they manage and develop IS resources relative to the issues. The research was guided by two specific objectives.
