Rethinking Teaching in Higher Education: From a Course Design Workshop to a Faculty Development Framework . Edited by Alenoush Saroyan and Cheryl Amundsen . Sterling, Va. : Stylus Publishing , 2004 . xiv + 272 pages. ISBN 1‐57922‐047‐9 . $24.95 (paper) . Rethinking Teaching in Higher Education is directed at anyone in higher education charged with developing faculty: deans, department chairs, or other administrators with oversight over teaching and learning. This book helps us think about teaching by analyzing a course development workshop offered regularly at McGill University. Parts I and II explore the vision behind the workshop and how it actually unfolds; Part III includes reflections from several workshop participants; and Part IV explores faculty development in a more comprehensive fashion, illustrated by cases from a variety of academic disciplines. As the editors note, continued dialogue with workshop participants over the years “reaffirms our belief that the Workshop promotes more than a few tips about teaching; that it inspires individuals to think about broader issues concerning teaching and learning” (205). This book contributes to our thinking in the same way. Saroyan and Amundsen, along with several other colleagues, have been facilitating the Course Design and Teaching Workshop http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Teaching Theology & Religion Wiley
