Qualitative and quantitative determination of urinary carbohydrates by thin layer chromatography A thin layer Chromatographie method is reported for the separation and roughly quantitative determination of clinically important urinary carbohydrates. The separation is performed on cellulose with ethyl acetate--pyridine--water, and the carbohydrates are located by treatment with aniline--phthalate and then with naphthoresorcinol--trichloracetic acid. The quantitative evaluation between and after the two treatments is performed visually by comparing the colour intensity and UV-fluorescence of the sugar spots with those from a mixture of test sugars run simultaneously.
