Twelve species of marine algae are newly recorded from Taiwan and its offshore islands. These include 3 species of Chlorophyta and 9 species of Rhodophyta. They are Tydeniania expeditions Weber-van Bosse, Udotea argentea Zanardini, Udotea fragilifolia Tseng et Dong, Porphyr a vietnamensis Tanaka er P.-H. Ho. L. okcanurai Yamada, L. pcamosa ZanardinL Z.. dotyi Saito, L. haniaia Yamada and L. parvipapillata Tseng. Of these Tydemania and Titanophora are new genera for Taiwan. Their biogeographical affinities are also discussed briefly. Introduction The algal flora of Taiwan has been studied by several workers (Yamada 1925 a, b? 1950, Okamura 1931, Ishijima 1941, 1942, Shen and Fan 1950, Chiang I960, 1962 a, b? 1973 a r b, Chiang and Chou 1980, Chou and Chiang 1981, Chiang and Chen 1982, Yang and Chiang 1982? Chiang and Wang 1987, Lews and Morris 1987, Huang 1990, 1991). Most of these researches have dealt with intertidal algal surveys.
