MISZELLEN MISZELLEN The <Tafsir or Abdallah b. «Abbäs Von Isaiah Goldfeld (Tel Aviv) One of the most pertinent questions with regard to the nature of Qur'änic Interpretation, namely the method of transmission of the basic historial and primary theological source material of the Sahäba-Täbi'ün generations, seems to have reached a decisive stage. The lucid and inöpiring study by F. Sezgin of the disciplines of Tafsir and Hadlth has revived and manifested the convincing indigenous answer by Muslim scholars äs to whether that material was transmitted written, oral or by a combination of the two methods. Accordingly we can now, more safely than in the past, accept the authorship of Sahäba and Tabi'ün for the basic Information about Slra and Sunna,2) äs well äs for tentative religious speculations like Qadar, in both its connotations, and Irjä*.3) We are also in a Position to affinn, more readily than before, the query äs to whether the third generation of Muslim scholars and their students, which is to say Mufassirün and Muhaddithün flourishing during the first half of the 8th Century A.D.,4) really possessed such a vast störe of Information äs the later sources ascribe to *) F.
