Coteanu: Limba nu reflecta realita tea ca o oglindä, adicä pasiv §i nici n-o structureazä exercitmdu-si actiunea in direcjie unicä spre realitate, ci reflectä, organizeazä reflectarea §i redesemneazä lumea infunctie de aceastä organizare. Func^ia reflexivä a limbii (este) consecinta unui proces cu directie permanent dublä: de la realitate la desemnarea unor pär^i ale ei, de la aceastä -- dupä specificarea lor mentala prin denumire si sintaxä -- din nou la realitate $.a.m.d. (Astfei) se explicä §i posibilitatea imaginärii unei lumi care nu corespunde mtocmai celei reale (§i care este) lumea poeziei.
