Von WALTER LINGENBERG A new format for bibliographical data in machine-readable form has been created by a working group of librarians and documentalists on behalf of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Association). This format may serve as an exchange format between German libraries, and as a basis for the development of local schemes for data collection. Although it is said to be compatible with MARC II, it is to some extent more general and in some respects not as detailed as MARC. A list of the data fields (= Kategorien) together with a preliminary commentary is given as an appendix. An English version may be obtained on request from the Arbeitsstelle für Bibliothekstechnik, Berlin (W). Wenn im folgenden ein neues Schema zur Erfassung bibliographischer Daten präsentiert werden soll, so stellt sich gleich zu Anfang die Frage, warum dieses neue Schema entwickelt worden ist und in welcher Beziehung es zu dem von der Library of Congress in Zusammenarbeit mit anderen angloamerikanischen Fachleuten entwickelten Marc-Format steht, das doch allenthalben Anerkennung und Bewunderung gefunden hat.
