The compound was purified by silica column chromatography (eluent: dichloromethane). Suitable crystals for X-ray analysis were obtained by slow evaporation of butylacetate/ethanol-solution at room temperature. H4HBP crystallizes in an acentric space group although the molecule contains no chiral atoms.
