This brief note serves as a report on the state of excavations of Cavità 254 conducted from 2012 through 2014 beneath the city of Orvieto. The pyramidal shaped hypogeum was constructed at an unknown date but filled in around 430 B.C.E. based on the last securely datable material found. This feature is material rich, yielding artifacts from the proto-historical period to 430 B.C.E. The greatest concentration of material dates from the end of the sixth to the middle of fifth century B.C.E., including large quantities of gray bucchero as well as Attic red figure. To date, excavations have also recovered more than 160 Etruscan inscriptions and sigla. DOI 10.1515/etst-2015-0005 In May of 2012, excavations commenced on a pyramidal shaped hypogeum beneath the city of Orvieto. Under the direction of David B.George and Claudio Bizzarri, with Paolo Binaco serving as the field supervisor, the project is a collaboration between the Parco Archeologicio ed Ambientale dell'Orvietano, the Fondazione per il Museo "C.Faina," Saint Anselm College and the University of Arizona with the assistance of the Speleotecnica (s.r.l.). Before the onset of archaeological investigation, the top portion of the structure served as a wine cellar for a property owned by A.Pagliaccia
