This trio of films comprises the tenth, and last, installment in the Milestone series of prerevolutionary Russian cinema. Subtitled "The End of an Era," it includes these three works produced in 1917. Most of this videocassette is devoted to the two films by Evgenii Bauer (1865-1917), one of the preeminent directors of the pre-Soviet period. The Revolutionary deals with an overtly political topic untypical of a film-maker known for melodrama. Produced shortly after the February Revolution, it shows just how closely cinema was following the events of the day. The principal is an old revolutionary nicknamed Granddad. AITested in 1907 during Stolypin"s crackdown on dissidents, he spends a full decade in bleak Siberian exile. Returning to Moscow after the fall of the autocracy, he is reunited with his now . grown son, but finds that political differences threaten to keep them apart. Granddad believes that
