Brill, Leiden 1973, 213 pp., cloth f 72,-, for sub- scribers f 56,- (This volume is chiefly devoted to syntactical studies on the use of Hebrew particles, but DEQUEKER'S paper on 'The Saints of the Most High in Qumran and Daniel' (pp. 108-187) cannot be passed without mention in this Journal. In the first section of his paper DFQUFKER makes some important corrections to the Redaktion.rge.rchichte of Dan. 7 advanced in 1960 (cf. Epbemerides Theologiae Lovanienses 36 (1960), pp. 353-392). The second part deals with the meaning of qdw6im in the literature of Qumran and tries to demonstrate that nowhere in Qumran the understanding of the "saints" as members of the sect is absolutely certain, whereas the proposed meaning "heavenly beings" fits everywhere into the context and can be demonstrated in most of the texts. Finally the author examines the meaning of qdwfym in Dan. 7 and 8.
