209 Trinity as Communion in the Spirit: Koinonia, Trinity, and Filioque in the Roman Catholic-Pentecostal Dialogue Veli-Matti Kärkäinnen According to Ralph Del Colle, a Catholic trinitarian the- ologian, "the Pentecostal-charismatic experience is intrinsical- ly trinitarian in structure." He contends that through "the pneumatic effusion of Spirit-baptism the Christian is empow- ered with the Holy Spirit in the mission of Jesus Christ to the glory of God the Father." 1 That all Pentecostals are trinitarian in their spirituality and faith2 is a fact without much dispute, even when we take into account a fairly large number of Pentecostals, in a conservative estimate about one-fourth of all Pentecostals, who are known as "Oneness Pentecostals." Oneness Pentecostals, sometimes also known as "Jesus Only" Pentecostals-since they baptize in the name of Jesus only-do adhere to a trinitarian understanding, albeit on the economic level only. They argue that to go beyond the economic level means giving up the economic language of the New Testament and succumbing to philosophical speculations.3 1 Ralph Del Colle, "Oneness and Trinity: A Preliminary Proposal for Dialogue with Oneness Pentecostalism" (paper read at the 26th Annual Meeting of the Society for Pentecostal Studies, 9-13 March 1996, Toronto, Canada) 2.
