The situation of military history in France has considerably changed in recent years, both on an institutional level and in terms of scientific orientation. Therefore, an update is required. With some exceptions, the present overview does not take into account publications issued before 2005. As such, it does not aim to be exhaustive, serving primarily the purpose to provide an indication of current historiographical trends. Institutional Reorganization Research supervised by the Ministry of Defense The policy followed by the Directorate of Memory, Heritage and Archives (DMPA) has been restructuring the institutions in order to improve the usage of resources. As a result, the following three pillars were established: 1) IRSEM – Institute of Strategic Research of the Military Academy The IRSEM (Institute of Strategic Research of the Military Academy, www .irsem.defense.gouv.fr ), established in 2009 and directed by Prof. Frédéric Charillon, regroups the different research institutes, which were previously part of this establishment. Its enlargement was due to certain external contributions, such as the CEHD (Research Centre for Defence History) of Prof. Jean-Christophe Romer, whose activities continue within the new organism body (the conference cycle includes: CEHD 2006-2007: Women Warriors and Women Soldiers ; CEHD 2008/9: The Occupations
