Also available online - www.brill.nl/sv Special issue on unresolved questions in stereopsis INTRODUCTION In response to my questions about the origin of what Peter Kaiser called the ‘Color and Vision Network’ (CVNet), he wrote: “As I recall, the first 20 names for what became CVNet were collected at an evening session of the OSA meeting in about 1985. The original idea was not to have informal discussions, but rather to have a means to send messages to the Vision community. The messages would be sent to me and I would forward them to the CVNet list that I maintained. It was not nearly as sophisticated as CVNet run by Hoover Chan. He took it over from me some time around 1993. When I ran it, the main use was to distribute various announcements, jobs, meeting, etc. I do recall, on occasion, the message I would send to the list was a question posed by someone else on the list. I have no recollection of sending replies to everyone to the initial question. I would assume replies went directly to the person
