And anyone familiar with Merleau-Ponty already has a sense of the way the body figures in the genesis of ideas about experience. Many psychologists have attempted to employ the wisdom of the body in their clinical and research efforts, yet few have ventured to speak clearly of their enactment of bodily modes of intuition. The problem is that for the most part, "the body is lived and not known (Sartre, 1943/1956, p. 324).
