361 SCANDINAVIAN LEGISLATION IN ENGLISH With the increasing trend of our time towards application of the comparative method for legal analysis and efforts to unify and harmonize law, knowledge of legislation of various countries achieves considerable importance to the interna- tional lawyer. Ever so often language may, however, become an impediment to the lawyer wanting to acquire exact knowledge of the legislation of other coun- tries. Being aware of this fact the editors have decided to incorporate in this journal a new regular column "Scandinavian Legislation in English". The intention is, primarily, to reproduce on a current basis translations into English of such new Scandinavian acts as may be deemed significant in an international context. Prac- tical considerations of space and time prevent engaging exhaustively in a retro- active translation of Scandinavian legislation and, f.i., of a number of Danish acts-(the Constitution Act, the Merchant Shipping Act, the Criminal Code, and others) -translations into English do, in fact, exist already. However, if and when a need to translate older legislation arises for other reasons, the translations made will be reproduced in this column. ' As a first example we print below an English version of the substantive sections of the Danish 1972 Arbitration Act. The translation was made by Mr. Poul Boeg, certified interpreter of English who, in the future, will assume responsibility for editing this part of the journal. ' The Editors. '
