Miscall This collection of ten essays by colleagues and students of Hans W. Frei was offered to him on his sixty-fifth birthday. The essays respond to Frei's work, especially The Eclipse of Biblical Narrative. Although the ten articles vary in their scope, they are all programmatic and call for further discussion of their topics. They vary in the success with which they accomplish their stated goals. The articles focus "on the Bible, and paricularly on the point at which theological concern with its authority as scripture intersects with hermeneutical questions about its character as narrative." (xi) Bible, scripture, narrative and authority are terms used frequently. The articles are diverse and differ because of their specific focus and because of the relations they envision between these four elements. There is divergence in the understandings of the terms, especially narrative and authority. There are no readings of particular stories. This is to be ex- pected in a collection of this type, but frequently the categories of narrative and narrativity are used in a too general sense. There is no
